Iloilo to host 65th Miss Universe​ Photoshoot

As the 65th Miss Universe pageant approaches, one by one the Department of Tourism of the Philippines is releasing the official venues for the different events that will take place throughout the pageant and one of them is Iloilo City and Ilonggos are ecstatic about it.

In a press release it was mentioned that Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon and DOT Secretary Wanda Teo met yesterday to discuss Iloilo’s hosting of the Miss Universe photoshoot. Drilon welcomed the upcoming hosting of Iloilo City of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant and said that the event will surely showcase Iloilo’s remarkable progress and development to the country and the rest of the world.
Drilon said that the event represents a perfect opportunity to show the international community and foreign audiences – as well as the rest of the nation – the many achievements Iloilo has made in terms of development and shared progress throughout the past years.
It was upon Drilon’s request that Iloilo was chosen as one of the venues of the photoshoot.
“As we host the beautiful contestants of the Miss Universe 2016, it is also a good time to share to the rest of the world the unique beauty of Iloilo, and how she is steadily recovering her role as the Queen of the South,” Drilon said.

Drilon said that the tentative date of the photoshoot is on January 19, but he said he would not discount the possibility that it will coincide with the annual celebration of Dinagyang Festival on January 22.
Drilon appealed to the whole Ilonggo community to be one in working to make the historic event successful.
“This event is an affirmation and acknowledgement of Iloilo’s rise as a progressive and developing center in the Visayas,” he added. Miss Universe 2016 will be the 65th Miss Universe. The coronation will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30.

It’s going to be a beautiful, festive and memorable event for everyone comes the 65th Miss Universe​ competition. According to an article of Interaksyon TV5, one of the major sponsors of this beautiful event, SM Lifestyle, Entertainment Incorporated, SM Mall Of Asia seaside complex in Pasay City will be transformed into a virtual Miss Universe village as it becomes the venue for events leading up to the grand coronation night. They will showcase an array of activities to bring the whole Miss Universe experience to the Filipino people and the entire world. It will host the Governor’s Ball, National Gift Auction, National Costume, the Fashion Show, the Designer Showcase and After Party among others, all of which are designed to provide the Filipino people and the rest of humanity an unforgettable Miss Universe experience.
65th Miss Universe​ competition will be on January 30, 2017 to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena. Maxine Medina will represent the Philippines. 
This is the 3rd time the Philippines will host the Miss Universe​ pageant. The first one was in 1974 then on 1994.
The Philippines had three Miss Universe​ title holder. Gloria Diaz (1969), Margie Moran (1973) and Pia Wurtzbach (2015). 

CONFIRMED! Miss Universe​ pageant to be held in the Philippines


The announcement was made last July 28, 2016 by Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo where they held a press conference in Makati Philippines. 
“I would like to inform everybody that the Miss Universe pageant will be on January 30, 2017 in the Philippines,” said Teo. “The government is not going to spend any single centavo. It will be the private sector who would shoulder the expenses.”
“Private sector will handle the expenses. The president’s concern was the expenses. But when we assured him that there will be no funding from the government. He said, okay. ‘This is already okay’ So we don’t know where the news report came from that he did not like it. He never said that,” Undersecretary Kat De Castro added when there’s a news circulating yesterday that the President allegedlyUniverse​id know already. 
“They got in touch with me this morning. Shawn McClain, who is the VP at Miss U, was shocked when that article came out because everyone was already on board. The article says the president doesn’t want it to happen,” De Castro said.
Teo said that she called Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to consult if her department can announce the news following some confusion surrounding Duterte’s earlier statement, saying “I wouldn’t want to spend on it.”
“I told [Medialdea], ‘Is it okay if we announce that the Miss Universe will be held in the Philippines, and he said yes,'” Teo said.
“We were planning to set up a press con for the announcement earlier, but I said, let us just wait said, let administrative order. But because of the news release, I said we should come out and announce,” Teo told reporters.
“The administrative order will be signed before the end of the month,” she added.
The Tourism chief confirmed that Japanese billionaire and chief of Tiger Resort, Kazuo Okada, as well as the country’s richest man, Henry Sy, are among them.
President Duterte met with officials of the Tiger Resort, Leisure, Entertainment Inc. led by Chairman Kazuo Okada, Executive, Assistant to the Chairman Sumire Kamura and Chief Operating Officer Takahiro Usui on July 18 at the Music Room in Malacañan Palace on July 18. Details of their conversation, however, were not disclosed.
The Miss Universe​ pageant was held twice already in the Philippines. First in 1974, when Miss Universe 1973 Margarita Moran crowned Amparo Muñoz of Spain. In 1994, Second, India’s Sushmita Sen was crowned by Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres.
Miss Universe​ 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will crown her successor in the Philippines.
